Overview |
The Quad City Area
REALTOR® Association began in April of 2004 as a merger of the
Greater Davenport Board
of REALTORS® and the
Illinois Quad City Area REALTOR® Association. The new Association
includes jurisdiction covering Rock Island, Mercer and Northern Henry
County in Illinois and Scott and a portion of Cedar County in Iowa.
The
Greater Davenport Board of
REALTORS® organized real estate in
the Davenport, Iowa area, can be traced back to 1920 when Bert Frahm was
the groups first President. In the years that followed, many leaders
from Davenport have taken on ranking positions with both the State and
National Associations.
Organized real estate has been blessed with many outstanding individuals
from the Greater Davenport Board of REALTORS®
(GDBOR). The Board has had
several father and son past president’s of both the Local and State
associations. In 1993, its own Bonnie Sparks was named NAR Educator of
the Year. REALTOR®
Bill Stradt has been a nominee for the Distinguished Service Award on
the National level.
For REALTORS®,
the GDBOR provided a wide range of services in notably member friendly
fashion. A state of the art Multiple Listing Service (MLS), property
ads on the Internet, the latest Electronic Keysafe system,
communications and information from State and National sources are among
the mainstay services offered to members.
In early 1999, in conjunction with the Illinois Quad City Area
REALTOR®
Association and the Peoria Board of REALTORS®,
the Greater Davenport Board of REALTORS®
MLS
subscribers became part of an all-new and unique quasi-regional system.
As a shareholder in PDQ Information Services, the users have a new
system with many new features available so as to better serve the public
while making many of their professional tasks easier.
The Board was located at 3719 Bridge Ave., Suite 1, Davenport, Iowa
before merging with the Illinois Quad City Area REALTOR® Association.
The Illinois Quad City Area REALTOR® Association
was chartered by the
National Association of REALTORS® in July of 1972 as a
merger of the Rock Island and the Moline-East Moline Boards of REALTORS®
as the Rock Island County Board of REALTORS®. The charter of
the new Association included jurisdiction covering Rock Island and
Mercer Counties in Illinois. Mercer County prior to 1972 had been an
unassigned territory of the National Association of REALTORS®.
In 1987 the northern and western portions of Henry County were added to
the jurisdiction and in 1989 the name was changed to Illinois Quad City
Area REALTOR® Association.
In 1973 the Association converted its loose leaf MLS service to the
first computerized weekly book in the area and in 1979 added an on-line
service allowing REALTOR® offices to access the MLS computer
directly with related support software. In 1981 the two level membership
classification was eliminated becoming an "ALL REALTOR®"
board.
In 1977 the Association purchased property at 1587 37th Avenue in
Moline and following remodeling moved into the building in 1978, with
completion of the remodeling of the over 3,500 sq ft facility in October
of that year.
In 1983 a subsidiary corporation was formed, Quad City Real Estate
Information Services, Inc. which began publishing and distributing Real
Estate Advertising to over 300 sites in both Iowa and Illinois.
In 1988 a Commercial Division was organized as a joint venture with
the Iowa Board with MLS service. In 1988 the first on-line system was
purchased adding Rock Island and Henry County taxes to the system as
well as on-line photos.
A Board Store was established in the
late 1980's with many items to promote professionalism for members.
In 1991 the Association placed the "Advantage Express" keysafe
system into effect resulting in the first electronic system in the area.
The Association also introduced the remote site CENTREX system for
member offices during the year to assist in lowering telephone costs.
In 1993 the Association signed a multi-board management agreement
with Galesburg Board of REALTORS® for administrative services
and then also with Fulton County Board of REALTORS® in 1996.
In 1995 the association entered into an agreement for group
cellular phone service with US Cellular to reduce rates.
1996 brought entry into the World Wide Web with the Association's
first Web Page and all residential listings being made available through
Homeseekers.com.
The Quad City Real Estate Referral Company was established in 1997
as an option for licensees not actively practicing real estate
brokerage. 1997 also brought a multi-board agreement for
Professional
Standards.
In 1999 many changes occurred with the Multiple Listing Services
including a new MLS Computer system, elimination of the printed MLS book
and establishing a Technical Support staff position. Upgrading of the keysafe system was also done to be compliant with the year 2000.
Also in 1999 the Association office at 1587 37th Avenue, Moline was
sold to Walgreen's and on January 17, 2000 moved to our present
location. The increase in space will allow the Association to continue
to grow in services in the new century.
As the Association continues to offer many services to its membership so
that we can provide the real estate needs of the consumer and the
REALTOR®.
